Polisario's member: manoeuvres are attempts to deny the international legitimacyon Saturday

Mr. Mhamed Khadad, Member of the Polisario Front's National Secretariat, Coordinator with the Minurso said yesterday in New York that manoeuvres meant to turn a deaf ear to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's recommendations constituted attempts by some countries to deny the international legitimacy. Mr. Khadad told reporters that there was a clear-cut willpower of France, United States of America and Spain to ignore UN Secretary-General's report about Western Sahara issue. As for U.N. Security Council consultations about a resolution aiming at starting negotiations, Mr. Khadad said he was sorry for the fact that Morocco and its allies procrastinated dealing with the Western Sahara issue. Plisario's member confirmed that "much work still to be done". We are against an unfair treatment of Sahraoui and Moroccan proposals as that would reflect the point of view of side only, he said. On the other hand, the U.N. Security Council has delayed a vote on a resolution meant to kick-start negotiations. It's worth recalling that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had renewed his call to start negotiations without preconditions to reach a solution to the conflict between Morocco and Polisario. Ban Ki-moon also recommended a six-month extension of the mandate of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) until October. UN's envoy to Western Sahara: a resolution should be issued for self-determination The UN's envoy to the Western Sahara, Peter van Walsum said the speediest way to settle the issue of Western Sahara is a resolution issued by U.N. Security Council stipulating self-determination of Western Sahara's people. Van Walsum hopes for a resolution in conformity with UN Secretary-General's call so that Morocco and Polisario start direct talks to reach an "acceptable" political solution. The UN's envoy to the Western Sahara said one of the reasons which complicate the problem is that U.N. Security Council did not want to make a decision since the beginning of the crisis in 1975.
